The Unseen Resume

image.png

As a firm believer in meritocracy, an advocate of diversity, and a fervent existentialist, I've constantly worked towards clearing the lenses through which I look at people, as well as to take a future looking approach.

If we want to see people for their whole selves, beyond what societal standards and social habitus may force on us, we need to constantly challenge our assessment grids. Look beyond.

Not only beauty is in the eyes of the beholder - prejudice too.

That's why I have called for what I coined the "Unseen Resume": a catalog of personal experiences that speak for the individual, beyond what the traditional, often biased credentials can tell. You can read more here.

In that effort, I also started to crowdsource what unconventional Resume lines could be. Traits, Tricks and Traumas. You can help in that effort by contributing here with your own Treasures.

And I am sharing mine. At least partially.

Mind in the Mirror - How did that name ever come up?

I went for a concert in Munich, one that suggested medleys between Beethoven and Michael Jackson. I heard Man in the Mirror differently that night. Maybe because I was vulnerable, heartbroken, and hence extra emotional. A feeling of beauty and anger grew in me. Beauty for the art, anger against hypocrisy.

On the way back, walking under the rain, and seeing my reflection on the wet pavement (false, it was on a shop window, but I like to bring poetry to my memories), the name came to mind.

I have used it as my pseudonym since then, replacing Gabi, the name I've always wished I had.

That's the end of the story.
